Homemade Mozzarella Sticks

Mozzarella sticks are popularly served with tomato, ketchup or marina sauce. They are coated with breadcrumbs and deep-fried until golden brown. This delicious dish dates back to Medieval France in 1393, but its origins are uncertain. In this recipe, you can make crunchy and delicious mozzarella sticks right at home. Easy to make and only has a few ingredients.

This recipe takes about to 10 minutes to prepare. Mozzarella sticks need to set in the freezer for at least 2 hours. Serves 20 sticks.

Ingredients:

• 8 oz of mozzarella cheese
• 1/4 cup of flour
• 2 large eggs
• 2 tbsp of water
• 2 cups of Italian style breadcrumbs
• Vegetable oil

Instructions:

Cut the mozzarella into half. Tilt the cheese on one edge and cut into half. Cut into strips.
Spread out flour on a plate. Coat the mozzarella sticks with flour including the ends.
Place the sticks in a colander to remove excess flour.
To make the egg wash, crack 2 eggs in a bowl and add water. Stir until eggs have broken down.
Place breadcrumbs on a plate.
Dip mozzarella sticks on the egg wash. Make sure all sides are coated.
Coat the sticks with breadcrumbs including the ends.
Repeat the breading process by doing a second coat of egg wash and breadcrumbs on all of the sticks.
Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a plate and let it set in the freezer for 2 hours.
Fill a skillet with about an inch of vegetable oil. Heat the oil to 350F.
Carefully add the sticks to the oil.
Cook for about a minute or until golden brown.
Drain excess oil by placing sticks on paper towels or on a cooling rack.
Serve with marina sauce.
