How To Make Omurice

Omurice, or omg-rice, is a Japanese style omelette that is filled with fried rice. It is usually served with ketchup. The rice is usually cooked with pan-fried chicken. The rice is then enveloped in a thin layer of egg. Another variation of this dish is replacing rice with noodles to make “omusoba”. Aside from chicken, the rice is also partnered with Spam or hot dogs. This is a perfect breakfast meal that is great for leftover rice.

This recipe takes about 20 to 25 minutes to make. Cooking time for rice depends on your rice cooker. Serves 2.

Ingredients:

• 130 grams of chicken
• 1 garlic clove, minced
• 1/4 of a white onion, minced
• 4 button mushrooms, chopped into quarter-inch slices
• 1 tbsp of white wine
• 200 grams of canned tomato
• 1 tbsp of tomato ketchup
• Half of a bouillon cube that is shaved thinly
• 1 bay leaf
• 30 grams of frozen green peas
• Olive oil
• Salt
• Pepper
• 250 grams of steamed rice
• 4 eggs
• 1 tsp of dairy cream

Instructions:

Slice the chicken into half inch pieces.
Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
Soak the green peas in boiling water. Drain and season with salt.
Beat eggs. Season with dairy cream, salt, and pepper.
Place a pan over medium heat.
Pour olive oil to coat the pan.
Cook garlic and onion until translucent.
Add the chicken to the pan and cook until slightly pale in color.
Mix the mushrooms with the chicken.
Pour wine and cook until alcohol has vaporized.
Pour canned tomatoes, ketchup, bouillon cube, and bay leaf into the pan.
Stir well.
Add the peas and let it simmer until liquid has reduced.
Remove the bay leaf.
Add the steamed rice and mix until it has been completely coated with sauce.
Transfer the rice to a plate.
In another pan, fry the egg mixture.
Place the rice in the middle of the egg, and fold the sides of the egg.
Put a plate on top of the pan and flip the egg.
Season with ketchup, salad greens, and parsley.
