Rose Apple Custard Tart Recipe

Apples are commonly used in pies and tarts. They have that sweet and crunchy taste that is very popular with everyone.

This recipe takes custard tart to an elegant level. This impressive custard tart is decorated with edible apple roses with their lovely red colors intact. The secret to keeping the apples bright red are out. This dessert is a delicious mix of tarty apples and sweet creaminess of custard.

Ingredients:

Pastry:

• 1.5 cups of flour
• Half a cup and 1 tbsp of unsalted butter
• Half a cup of caster sugar
• Half a cup of fine pecan nuts
• 1 egg

Jam Glaze:

• 1/4 cup of jam jelly
• 1 tbsp of water

Custard:

• 3/4 cup and 1 tbsp of milk
• 4 egg yolks
• 2 tbsp of cornstarch
• Vanilla

Red Apple Roses:

• 16 red apples
• Half a cup of fresh orange juice
• Half a cup of sugar
• Half a cup of melted butter

Instructions:

This recipe takes about 1 hour to 2 hours to make. Serves 5 to 6.

Preheat oven to 350F.
In a bowl, rub the butter to the flour using your hands until the mixture is similar to breadcrumbs in texture.
Add the sugar and pecan nuts, and stir with a spoon.
Crack open an egg and stir well until it becomes a dough.
Place plastic wraps on top and bottom of the dough, and slowly flatten using a rolling pin.
Make sure that the flattened dough is bigger than your pie pan.
Remove the plastic wrap on top, and flip it over the pan by lifting the bottom.
Press down on the dough until it sticks to the bottom and edges of your pie pan.
Remove the excess on top.
Use a fork to make some indents on the bottom to remove air bubbles.
Place in the oven for 20 minutes.
To make the custard, add egg yolks and sugar in a saucepan.
Whisk together until no sugar is visible.
Add cornstarch and milk, and whisk together.
Cook over high heat and keep whisking until it thickens.
Turn off the heat, add the cream, stir, and set aside to cool.
To make the jam glaze, simply add jam jelly and water in a saucepan.
Cook over low heat until jam thins out.
Spread the jam glaze on the bottom of the pie crust.
Add the custard to the crust.
To keep the apples red for the roses, mix orange juice, sugar and melted butter in a bowl. Mix well.
Slice the apples using a mandolin.
Soak the apple slices in the bowl for 10 minutes.
Roll the apple slices and wrap in layers to make a rose.
Cut off the bottom to create a flat base.
Prop on top of the custard.
Continue to do this until you covered the entire pie with roses.

Ideas And Tips:

• Make sure that your melted butter is warm to room temperature before soaking the apple slices. If it is too hot, it will curd the orange juice and make the apple slices too limp.
