Deep Fried Mushrooms

Although they are commonly added to pasta sauces, stews, soups, and stir-fries, mushrooms can also be breaded and deep-fried. In this easy-to-make recipe, you’ll be able to have mushrooms that are crunchy on the outside but moist and tender on the inside. Whether you are a vegetarian or just someone looking to eat less meat, these deep-fried mushrooms will surely be your next favorite snack or appetizer. These mushrooms are perfect with any of your favorite dipping sauces.

Ingredients:

This recipe takes about 30 minutes to make. Serves 3 to 4.

• 200 grams of button mushrooms
• ½ cup of all-purpose flour
• ½ cup of water
• 1 egg
• ½ tsp of garlic powder
• ½ tsp of salt
• ½ tsp of freshly ground pepper
• 1 cup of panko breadcrumbs
• 2 cups of vegetable oil

Instructions:

To make the batter, put flour in a large mixing bowl.
Add water, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Whisk well until smooth.
Wipe the mushrooms with a kitchen towel to make sure they are dry.
Cut the mushrooms into quarters, then drop them in the batter.
Stir well so the mushrooms are well coated.
Drop the mushrooms in the panko breadcrumbs.
Give them a good stir to make sure that the mushrooms are well coated.
Place the coated mushrooms on a wire rack.
Heat vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat until the temperature reaches 350°F.
Deep-fry the mushrooms in batches for 1 to 2 minutes or just until golden brown.
Place the fried mushrooms on a plate lined with paper towel.

Ideas And Tips:

Aside from mushrooms, you can use tofu, squash blossoms, avocados, onions, zucchini, eggplant, artichoke hearts, olives, kale, water spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, shrimps, oysters, squid, clams, crabsticks, fish, lotus root, cucumbers, okra, green beans, baby corn, asparagus or sweet potatoes.

You can also oven-fry the mushrooms. Lightly spray the breaded mushrooms with cooking spray, then put them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the oven at 450°F for 10 minutes.
