Fried Calamari With Lemon Mayonnaise

Fried calamari is a very popular appetizer or snack that originated from Italy. Calamari’s main ingredient is squid cut into rings, coated with flour, and deep-fried. It is usually served with regular mayonnaise or gravy in some regions. In this recipe, we’ll make a twist your calamari’s regular dip. It is a very good food starter for any event or meal for that matter. This is very easy and simple to cook you can always cook for the family.

Ingredients:

For fried calamari:

• 2 large squids (cut into rings)
• 1 cup flour
• 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• Vegetable oil (for frying)
• Lemon wedges (for garnishing)
• 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

For lemon mayonnaise:

• 1 garlic clove (crushed)
• 4 tbsp mayonnaise
• 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions:

This recipe takes 30 minutes to prepare and cook. Serves 2-3.

Mix flour, ground black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper in a container or ziplock bag.
Add the squids in.
Shake the container or the zip lock bag until the squids are coated all throughout.
Sift the squid to remove excess flour.
Set aside.

Mix crushed garlic, mayonnaise, and lemon juice in a small separate bowl.
Set aside.

Set a large pot over medium-high heat.
Heat vegetable oil.
Deep-fry the squids (you can do this by batch).
Let it fry for about 2 minutes or until golden brown.
Transfer to plate.
Serve with the lemon mayonnaise and lemon wedges.
