How To Cook Perfect Quinoa

Quinoa is a grain crop that is harvested mainly for its seeds. It is categorized as a pseudocereal. The quinoa plant originated from the Andean region in South America which covers Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, and Chile. Evidence shows that quinoa has been used for human consumption as far back as 7,000 years ago.

This recipe shows you an easy way to cook quinoa and can be used as a base for different meals like salads.

Ingredients:

• 1 cup of washed quinoa
• 2 cups of filtered water
• 1 tbsp of oil
• 1 tsp of turmeric
• Salt
• Pepper

Instructions:

This recipe takes about 30 minutes to make. Serves 1 to 2.

Add the quinoa in a saucepan over low heat.
Add seasonings like turmeric, salt, and pepper.
Drizzle a little bit of oil.
Once quinoa is roasted, pour the water and place it on medium high.
Bring it to a boil.
Stir well.
Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes and place the lid over the saucepan.
Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

• Check the label of your quinoa if it has been pre-washed. If not, make sure to rinse it using tap water for a few minutes to remove the coating that may taste bitter.

• You can make this oil-free by simply skipping the oil. In this recipe, sesame oil was used.

• Aside from turmeric, you can season quinoa with whatever you prefer. Other suggested seasonings are garlic powder, red pepper flakes, cumin, or cayenne pepper.

• Once the quinoa is cooked, you can add other ingredients like vegetables.
