How To Sear Scallops – 1 Minute Tips

A scallop is a term used to describe a variety of saltwater species of clams, marine bivalve mollusks or thorny oysters. It is also referred to the meat found inside these bivalves which are consumed as seafood. This meat is firm and white. Scallops are cooked in a variety of ways and they are very popular in restaurants. Scallops are rich in protein. Cooking scallops can be tricky.

This recipe shows a quick way to sear scallops in under 5 minutes. Scallops are seasoned with salt and pepper and then placed in a hot non-stick pan for 2 to 3 minutes on each side. The scallops are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.


• Scallops
• Salt
• Pepper
• Cooking oil


This recipe takes 5 to 6 minutes to make. Servings depend on the number of scallops cooked.

Use a paper towel to pat dry the scallops.
Pour some oil into a frying pan over medium to high heat.
Carefully place the scallops on the pan.
Fry the scallops for 2 to 3 minutes on each side.

Ideas And Tips:

• If your scallops are wet before you sear them, they do not get crispy on the outside compared to patting them dry with a paper towel. The cooking oil also needs to be really hot to get that perfect crisp.

• Once the scallops are searing on the hot oil, do not move them around. Let the scallops cook through and then flip them over after 2 to 3 minutes.
