Roti / Chapati (Flat Indian Bread)

Roti or chapati is an Indian flatbread. It is a popular staple in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The term chapati means flat in Hindi. The traditional way of making chapati is by slapping the dough between palms.

This recipe will allow you to have homemade chapati in just 10 minutes. Aside from being really easy, it has very few inexpensive dishes. You can serve chapati with other dishes such as eggs, vegetables, dips, and meat. You can also eat it on its own with butter.

Ingredients:

• Half a cup of whole wheat flour
• Pinch of salt
• 1/4 cup and 1 tbsp of lukewarm water
• 1/4 tsp of oil
• 1 tsp of Ghee or clear butter

Instructions:

This recipe takes about 10 minutes to make. Serves 4.

In a bowl, add flour and water. Mix well.
Add oil to hands and bowl. Knead the dough.
Separate into 4 parts.
Place a non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
Roll the dough to make thin discs.
Place the disc on the pan. Once it starts to bubble and change color, flip it over.
Flip it 2 more times and set aside.
Spread ghee or clear butter on one side.

Aside from cooking, it is also used as traditional medicine and for religious rituals. It is made by simmering butter that removes impurities and thus becomes a clear liquid.
