The traditional and delicious fried chicken has always been our go-to food for lunch or dinner because it is easy to cook. How about trying to cook this southern smothered chicken with gravy? This dish mainly starts with breaded fried chicken cooked with onions and garlic in a creamy gravy, which makes it more tender and delicious.
Ingredients:
• 1 lb chicken (thighs and legs)
• 1 medium-sized onion (chopped)
• 2 cups chicken broth
• 1 cup whole milk
• 1.5 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/4 cup vegetable oil
• 2 teaspoons garlic (minced)
• 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
• 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
• 1 teaspoon celery seed
• 1 tbsp onion powder
• 1 tbsp garlic powder
Instructions:
This recipe takes about an hour. Serves 4.
Prepare a large bowl for mixing.
Pour all-purpose flour.
Whisk it to make sure that there are no lumps.
Add the seasonings – salt, ground black pepper, celery seed, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and poultry seasoning.
Mix well until well combined.
Toss the chicken parts and coat it with the mixture thoroughly.
Set aside and reserve the remaining flour mixture.
Set a large frying pan over medium heat.
Pour vegetable oil.
Add the chicken parts and let it fry for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove the chicken and transfer to a plate.
Leave the oil on the pan for more cooking.
Add onion and saute for 2 minutes.
Add minced garlic and cook for a minute.
Remove the garlic and onion.
Set aside.
Leave the oil on the pan from the previous cooking.
Put some of the remaining flour mixture.
Stir until it gets brown.
Pour chicken broth and let it boil for 2 minutes.
Add whole milk and stir.
Let it boil for 3 minutes.
Put back the chicken in the pan.
Also put back the sauteed garlic and onions in the pan.
Flip the chicken parts to make sure they are well coated with the gravy.
Let it cook for 30-35 minutes.
Garnish with parsley.
Remove and transfer to a plate.
Serve and enjoy!
