This homemade honey sesame chicken is a perfect dish for lunch or dinner. The sauce brings a savory taste to the chicken. It’s a mixture of honey, tomato sauce, five-spice and some lemon juice. This recipe takes about 40 minutes to prepare and cook.
Ingredients:
• 2 eggs
• 2 tbsp soy sauce
• 2 chicken breasts (chop into bite-size pieces)
• 4 tbsp cornflour
• some oil for deep frying
• handful of sesame seeds
• 3-4 drops of sesame oil
• 1/4 cup water
• 1/4 cup honey
• 2 tbsp tomato sauce
• 1 tsp five-spice
• 1/4 tsp sesame oil
• juice of a lemon
• zest of 1/2 lemon
Instructions:
In a bowl, crack open two eggs.
Season with 2 tbsp soy sauce.
Whisk until well combined.
Add chopped chicken breast into the bowl.
Mix well.
Let it marinate for 15-20 minutes.
Add 4 tbsp cornflour into the chicken marinade.
Mix well.
Set a frying pan over medium-high heat.
Add oil for deep frying and heat it.
Fry the coated and cubed chicken breasts until golden brown.
Remove from the pan and transfer to a plate.
Set aside.
Meanwhile, prepare a saucepan.
Add 1/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of honey, and 2 tbsp tomato sauce.
Season with 1 tsp five-spice and 1/4 tsp sesame oil.
Squeeze in juice of a lemon.
Add zest of half a lemon.
Set it over medium heat and let it boil.
Once it boils, reduce to low heat and let it simmer until sauce thickens.
Once thick, remove from the heat and transfer to a bowl.
Add the cooked chicken into the bowl of sauce.
Sprinkle a handful of sesame seeds.
Drizzle 3-4 drops of sesame oil.
Mix to coat well.
Serve with rice.
