Ingredients:

For the dough:
• 2.5 cups (325 grams) bread/plain flour
• 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp (150 ml) warm milk
• 3 1/2 tbsp (50 grams) softened salted butter
• 1 tsp yeast (active dried/instant)
• 2 1/2 tbsp (30 grams) sugar
• 1 1/4 tsp (7 grams) salt
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp water

For the egg wash:
• 1 egg
• 1 tbsp milk

Instructions:

Prepare the dough:
Add milk, sugar, yeast, egg, butter, and salt in a mixing bowl.
Mix ingredients until well combined.
Add flour.
Mix until the texture turns into dough.
Transfer to a board or any clean surface.
Knead until dough becomes soft and elastic.
Add 1 teaspoon water to make the dough softer.
Knead again.

Divide and shape the dough:
Shape the dough into a long roll.
Divide it into equal parts approximately 40 grams in weight each (15 equal pieces).
Cover with a damp cloth to prevent drying if ever, while forming the dough pieces into small balls.
Grease a baking dish with butter.
Line with parchment paper.
Line up the balls in the baking dish.

Proof the dough:
Cover with clear plastic.
Let it sit for 1 hour to allow the dough to increase in size.
Remove the plastic cover.
Mix 1 egg and 1 tbsp milk to make an egg wash.
Brush the egg wash mixture on top of the dough rolls.

Bake the dough rolls:
Preheat oven to 375 F.
Bake the dough rolls for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from oven.
Serve and enjoy!

Tips and ideas:

Others serve dinner rolls with strawberry jam, honey, or cheese.

The softness and elasticity may differ due to the size variety of eggs and the protein content of the flour. However, this is just okay. If the dough is not soft or elastic enough after kneading, then you can add water or flour to get the desired texture.
