New York-Style Pizza At Home Recipe

Here’s a tasty and cheesy New York-style pizza you can prepare at home! This is an in-depth recipe with detailed comparison of ingredients and numerous tips and tricks to get the ultimate pizza! Use a pizza steel to get a crispier pizza crust. Spread a generous amount of homemade pizza sauce, some grated parmesan cheese and lots of grated mozzarella cheese for a delicious home-made pizza.



• 2 1/2 cups warm water
• 1 tbsp sugar
• 1 tsp active dry yeast
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp salt
• 5 cups bread flour

Pizza Sauce:

• 7 oz canned tomato
• a pinch of sugar
• sprinkle of dried oregano
• 1-2 tbsp olive oil

• some cornmeal
• some grated parmesan cheese
• 7-8 oz whole milk, low moisture mozzarella cheese (grated)


Keep the grated mozzarella cheese in the fridge until you use it.


In a mixing bowl, add 2 1/2 cups of warm water.
Add 1 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp active dry yeast.
Add 2 tbsp olive oil and 1 tbsp salt.
Add 5 cups of bread flour.
Mix until well combined.
Lightly knead the dough.
Add more bread flour if the dough is still sticky.
Continue to knead for 10 minutes or until you can stretch the dough without breaking it.
Divide the dough into four even dough balls.
Place each of the dough balls into greased containers.
Cover the containers.
Let the dough rise for two hours at room temperature.
Or you can place it in the fridge for 24 hours to rise.

Pizza Sauce:

In a sauce bowl add 7 oz of canned tomato.
Add a pinch of sugar and a sprinkle of dried oregano.
Drizzle about 1-2 tbsp of olive oil.
Mix until well combined.
Set aside.


Put a pizza steel in the oven.
Heat it at maximum temperature (550F) for an hour (I think this is very excessive! It does not take anywhere near this long for the steel to heat through and is exceptionally wasteful of energy.)

Prepare a pizza peel.
Sprinkle some cornmeal on the pizza peel.
Set aside.

Form the pizza dough on a flour-dusted plate.
Stretch the dough around the edges to form the pizza crust.
Place it on the pizza peel.
Spread the sauce on top of the pizza dough.
Sprinkle a small handful of grated parmesan cheese.
Top it off with an even distribution of grated mozzarella cheese.
Once the oven is ready, transfer the pizza dough to the pizza steel.
Let the pizza bake for 6-7 minutes.
Once done, remove the pizza using a thong and place it on a steel rack.
Let it cool for a few minutes.
Slice the pizza into equal portions.
