These yummy chicken buns are a perfect snack idea for the weekend. You can also prepare this savory recipe when you are going on a road trip. The buns are homemade dough filled with seasoned chicken mixture.
Ingredients:
Dough:
• 3 cups maida or all-purpose flour
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 1/2 tsp sugar
• 2 1/2 tsp active yeast
• 1 egg
• 1/4 cup milk (lukewarm)
• 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp water
• 1 tbsp cooking oil
Chicken Filling:
• 450 grams chicken (minced)
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
• 1 tsp pepper
• 1/2 tsp Garam masala
• 1 large white onion (chopped)
• 2 tbsp maida or all-purpose flour
• 1/4 cup milk
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 2 tbsp butter
Other Ingredients:
• 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)
• some sesame seeds (for garnishing)
Instructions:
Dough:
Prepare a mixing bowl.
Add all-purpose flour, salt, sugar and active yeast.
Mix well to combine.
Crack open an egg into the mixture.
Mix well to combine.
Pour lukewarm milk and mix well.
Add water, then mix until it becomes a dough.
Add oil.
Knead until dough is smooth.
Cover with cling film or clear plastic.
Let it rest for two hours.
Chicken Filling:
Meanwhile, set a saucepan over medium-high heat.
Add some olive oil and butter.
Once butter has melted, add minced chicken.
Stir and cook until color changes.
Season with salt, ginger-garlic paste, pepper and Garam masala.
Stir until well combined.
Add chopped white onions.
Continue to stir until onions are soft.
Add maida or all-purpose flour.
Stir until well combined.
Pour milk into the mixture.
Stir and cook until liquid reduces.
Remove from the heat and set aside.
Assembly:
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Remove the dough from the bowl once it has increased in size.
Knead and form into small circles.
Flatten each circle and place chicken a spoonful of filling in the middle.
Fold up the sides to the center and pinch to seal.
Do this with the rest of the dough and chicken filling.
Place the buns on a parchment-lined baking tray.
Cover with clear plastic or clingfilm.
Let it rest for 10 minutes.
Once done, remove the plastic.
Brush each bun with egg wash.
Sprinkle with some sesame seeds on top.
Place the baking tray inside the preheated oven.
Let it bake for 20-25 minutes.
Once done, remove from the oven.
Serve and enjoy!
