This recipe gives you an easy way to make crunchy onion rings at home. Instead of the traditional deep-frying, the onions are shallow-fried, reducing the amount of oil in the food. These onion rings are perfect for parties or munchies while enjoying your favorite game or movie.
Ingredients:
• 1 large white onion
• Panko breadcrumbs
• ½ cup of plain flour
• ¼ cup of cornstarch
• 2 tbsp oat flour
• 1 egg
• ½ cup of water
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 tsp sugar
• enough oil for shallow frying
Instructions:
This recipe takes about 10 to 15 minutes to make. Serves 2 to 3.
To prepare the batter, put plain flour, cornstarch, oat flour, egg, water, salt, and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
Whisk together until you get a smooth thick batter.
Cut the onion into 1-cm thick rings and separate inner rings.
Dip onion rings into the batter.
Lightly coat with panko breadcrumbs.
In a frying pan heat oil over medium heat.
Fry onion ring for about 30 seconds on each side.
Place onion rings on a wire rack to remove excess oil.
Serve and enjoy.
