Southern Hamburger And Potato Casserole (Easy Recipe)

Try this delicious and easy homemade Southern hamburger and potato casserole for your lunch. This recipe consists of a beef mixture and potatoes topped with shredded cheddar cheese. This will surely make everyone ask for more! This recipe takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Serves 6-7.


• 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
• Salt and black pepper to taste
• 1 large white onion (diced)
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 2 tsp flour
• 1 cup milk
• 10 1/2 oz (1 can) cream of mushroom
• 15 oz (1 can) pinto beans
• 6 medium potatoes (cut into 1 inch thick slices)
• 1 lb shredded cheddar cheese


Beef mixture:
Heat a large deep pan over medium-high heat.
Add ground beef.
Season with salt and black pepper.
Stir and cook until beef is browning.
Add onions.
Stir well and cook until beef is browned.
Add garlic powder and flour.
Stir for 2-3 minutes.
Reduce to medium-low heat.
Add milk.
Stir for 1 minute or until it thickens.
Add cream of mushroom and stir it.
Add pinto beans.
Mix until well combined.
Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
Set aside.

Boil sliced potatoes in a pot for 5 minutes.
Drain the water.

Preheat oven to 375 C.

Prepare a bake dish.
Layer with the boiled potatoes.
Sprinkle salt to season.
Layer with the beef mixture and spread evenly.
Add shredded cheese on top.
Layer with the remaining boiled potatoes.
Add the remaining beef mixture on top and spread evenly.
Top it off with shredded cheese.
Bake for 35 minutes.
Slice and serve.
