Steamed Fish Recipe

There are various ways to steam your fish. It is a healthier way to eat fish because it cooks in its own juices and does not require any oil. This recipe shows how the Chinese traditionally steam their fish. Fish is served during Chinese New Year because it is believed to bring prosperity to the coming year.

This dish is very easy to make and does not require a lot of ingredients.

Ingredients:

• 1 whole fish
• 1 red chili
• 2 stalks of spring onions
• 10 to 12 slices of ginger
• 1 tbsp of shao xing wine (Chinese cooking wine)

Sauce:

• 1 tbsp of water
• 2 tbsp of soy sauce
• 2 tbsp of oil
• 1 tsp of sugar
• White pepper
• Sesame oil

Instructions:

This recipe takes about 30 minutes to cook. Serves 1.

Make a bed of ginger slices and spring onions on the dish where you will steam your fish.
Add some ginger slices on top of the fish, and pour shao xing wine over the fish.
Place the dish over a wok that has boiling water and put the lid on.
Steam the fish for 20 minutes.
Prepare the sauce by placing soy sauce in a saucepan.
Add the soy sauce, water, sugar, white pepper, and sesame oil.
After 20 minutes, remove the juice from the steaming fish.
Take off the ginger slices from the top of the fish, and pour over the sauce.
Garnish with thinly chopped chili, spring onions, and ginger.

Ideas And Tips:

• If you are not comfortable eating a whole fish, you can definitely use fish fillet. Any type of white fish goes well with this recipe.

• Chinese cooking wine was used in this dish, but you can use red wine or white wine instead. You can also leave this out and just let the fish cook in its own juices.
