Spicy Tofu Stir Fry

Tofu is also known as bean curd. It is made from coagulating soy milk. Tofu is rich in protein. Research shows that tofu may reduce cholesterol and risks of heart disease. This version of tofu is really easy to make. The tofu is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Infused with spices, this tofu stir-fry dish is perfect with steamed rice, noodles, and salads.

This recipe takes about 10 to 15 minutes to make. Serves 2.

Ingredients:

• 1 pound of extra firm tofu, cut into cubes
• 1 tsp of sesame oil
• 2 tsp of soy sauce
• 2 tbsp of hot and spicy sauce
• 1/4 cup of sesame seeds
• 1 tsp of minced garlic
• Salt
• Cooking oil

Instructions:

Place a wok or frying pan over medium heat.
Pour cooking oil until it coats the entire pan.
Place tofu cubes into the pan. Cook until golden brown.
Season the tofu with minced garlic, salt, soy sauce, sesame oil, hot and spicy sauce, and sesame seeds.
Taste the tofu and adjust seasoning as necessary.
Cook for a few minutes and then remove from the heat.
Garnish the tofu dish with chopped spring onions.

Ideas And Tips:

• For a milder flavor, use sweet chili sauce instead of hot sauce.

• Packaged tofu is usually moist. It is best to use paper towels to pat the tofu dry before placing it in hot oil for frying.

• You can also marinade the tofu with spices so that it will absorb all of the flavors before you fry it.
