Banana Oat Smoothie Recipe

Banana is one of the most widely consumed fruits in the world. There are over 1000 varieties of bananas found globally, however, some varieties are said to be clones of other varieties that originated in Southeast Asia. The banana is from the berry family. Some varieties are eaten as a fruit while the others are used for cooking. It is a healthy source of vitamin B6, manganese, vitamin C, potassium, dietary fiber, biotin, and copper. It is often seen in cyclists’ jersey pockets as bananas are low in fat and rich in the carbohydrates needed to refuel the muscles during a ride. Banana is also called the happy fruit. It contains tryptophan which is converted into serotonin, the happy-mood brain neurotransmitter. It also wards off bad moods and reduces PMS symptoms. Eating bananas regulate blood sugar, which may relieve stress. It may also soothe morning sickness during pregnancy.

Today we have a banana smoothie. Enjoy the sweetness from banana and honey, the tart from yogurt, and the crunch from rolled oats. Feel happier and more upbeat with this healthy smoothie.

This recipe takes about 2 minutes to make. Serves 1.

• 1 small banana
• 2/3 cup of lite milk
• 2/3 cup of vanilla yogurt
• 1/4 cup rolled oats
• 1 tbsp honey

Put all the ingredients in a blender.
Blend for about a minute or until your desired texture.
Pour smoothie into a glass and serve with a straw.

Ideas And Tips:

• If you want a chill smoothie, freeze banana before using.

• A good source of B vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and soluble fiber, oats are among the healthiest grains on earth. But you may substitute oats with other cereals for this smoothie.

• Yogurt is produced by bacterial fermentation of milk. It is high in calcium, B vitamins, and trace minerals great for digestive and heart health. Other types of yogurt to choose from are Greek-style, Swiss-style or Balkan-style. Variants you will find are low-fat, fat-free, no added sugar, sugar-free, lactose-free, probiotic, prebiotic or organic. Look for a ‘real’ yogurt that is free from artificial ingredients.
