Chunky Chilli Beef And Cheese Meat Pie Recipe

Meat pie is a very simple and flavorful recipe that was first served around 9500 B.C. It is a pie with a meat filling combined with other flavors such as cheddar cheese. There are a lot of meat pie varieties over the years. Some are using oysters and chicken as pie fillings. Others add peas and potatoes in the mixture. Meat pies can be served with steak or vegetable salad.


Pie Filling:

• 400 grams beef (diced)
• 2 cloves garlic (crushed)
• 1 onion (chopped)
• 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
• 1 cup vegetable stock
• 1 cup beef stock
• 1.5 tbsp ground cumin
• 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
• Oil (for saute)
• Cheddar cheese (shredded)

Pie Base: can also use shortcrust pastry

• 2 tbsp butter (melted)
• 2 cups flour
• 2/3 cup of water
• Egg wash
• Puff pastry for pie tops


This recipe takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Serves 4.

Pie Filling:

Set a pot over high heat.
Pour oil and let it heat.
Saute onion and garlic.
Add the diced beef.
Let it cook for a few minutes until it changes color.
Season with ground cumin, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
Mix well.
Pour the beef stock.
Stir well and bring to simmer.
Add vegetable stock and let it simmer for 30 minutes or until the beef tenderizes.
Set aside.

Pie Base:

Preheat oven to 160 C.

In a mixing bowl, put flour, butter, and water.
Mix all ingredients until it becomes a dough.
Roll out the dough and cut a round-shape as the base of the pie.
Put in a greased pie tin.
Use something to keep it in shape.
Bake for 20 minutes.
Remove and prepare the pie bases.
Scoop from the beef mixture into the pie base.
Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
Secure by brushing egg wash on the sides.
Put the puff pastry on top.
Increase heat to 200 C.
Bake for about 20 minutes or until the pie surface becomes golden brown.
Remove and serve!
