Wontons are dumplings originated in China. The most common filling of a wonton is ground pork and shrimp. Flavor is added by mixing seasonings and usually finely chopped shallots. There are different wonton “shapes” that you can make.
Ingredients:
• 1 pack wonton wrappers
• 1 cream cheese (8 oz)
• 1/2 lb canned or fresh shrimp (chopped)
• 1 tbsp shallot (chopped)
• 1 tbsp powdered sugar
• 2 cups vegetable oil to fry
• 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
• 1/2 teaspoon white pepper powder
Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl, place the chopped shrimps.
Add cream cheese.
Mix until well combined.
Add shallots, kosher salt, powdered sugar, and white pepper powder.
Mix all ingredients well.
Fold the wantons.
Scoop a teaspoon of the shrimp filling.
Place on the wonton wrapper.
Secure by dabbing water on the sides of the wrapper.
Set a medium pan over high heat.
Put vegetable oil and let it heat.
Fry the wontons.
Transfer to a plate with tissue on to absorb excess oil.
Serve and enjoy!
