How To Make Tofu “Chicken” Nuggets

A chicken nugget is a food product made from chicken meat which is coated or breaded, then baked or fried. It is a popular fast-food item and can also be bought frozen in the grocery store. It is typically served with a dip and can be eaten as a snack. With this recipe, chicken meat is replaced with marinated tofu which is breaded, then fried. This recipe does not also use egg in the coating mix. Vegetarians and vegans can savor every bite of this tasty, healthy, cholesterol-free, preservative-free, low-calorie, and low-carb tofu nugget. You can serve it with your favorite side dish and dip to make a complete meal.


• 1 block of firm or extra firm tofu, drained and pressed
• ⅓ cup of soymilk
• 2 tbsp mustard
• 1 tsp onion powder
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 1 tsp dried parsley
• ½ tsp salt
• ½ tsp black pepper
• ¾ cup of breadcrumbs
• 2 cups oil


• 1 cup of apple juice
• 1 tsp soy sauce


This recipe takes about 30 minutes to make. Serves 2 to 3.

Cut the tofu block into 1″x ½” pieces.
Marinate tofu pieces in apple juice and soy sauce for at least 10 minutes.
In a bowl, whisk together soymilk, mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, dried parsley, salt, and black pepper.
Place breadcrumbs in a separate bowl.
Drain the tofu pieces.
Dip the tofu pieces in the soymilk mixture, coat breadcrumbs.
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
Fry tofu pieces until golden brown.
Place tofu nuggets in a plate lined with paper towel to drain excess oil.
Serve with your favorite dip.

Ideas And Tips:

• You can also bake the tofu nuggets. Place the breaded tofu pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the oven at 350°F for 25 minutes, turning the tofu nuggets halfway through the baking time.
