The BEST Beef Stew Recipe

A beef stew is a dish combining solid food ingredients such as vegetables and meat cooked in liquid. Stock is the most commonly used liquid, but if you want to add more flavor then you can add red wine. Stews are usually cooked through simmered not boiled, which makes the seasonings and other flavors combine well together.

Ingredients:

• 2 lbs beef tri-tip, roast or short ribs (sliced into 1 1/2 inch chunks)
• 3 medium carrots (diced)
• 3 medium celery sticks (diced)
• 4 garlic cloves (minced)
• 10 small mushrooms (sliced thinly)
• 3-4 cups baby potatoes (cut into half)
• 1 cup frozen sweet peas
• 2 tbsp butter
• 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
• 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 1/2 tbsp sugar
• 2 1/2 teaspoon Italian herbs blend
• 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
• 1 cup red wine
• 1 cup tomato sauce
• 4 cups beef broth
• Salt and black pepper to taste
• Cooking oil
• 2 tbsp fresh chopped parsley (for garnishing)

Instructions:

Preheat a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
Add oil and let it heat.
Put the chunks of beef.
Season with salt.
Let it fry for 7-10 minutes or until the meat changes to brown color.
Transfer the beef to a large soup pot.
Deglaze the frying pan by pouring 1/2 cup of water.
Add the liquid to the soup pot.
Set aside.

Using the same frying pan, add oil and let warm over medium heat.
Saute carrots, onion, and celery for 4-5 minutes.
Add garlic and stir for another minute.
Transfer the mixture to the large soup pot.

Using the same frying pan, melt butter over medium heat.
Add sliced mushrooms.
Let it cook for 4-5 minutes.
Season with salt.
Add flour and stir until the mushrooms are well coated.
Let it cook for a minute.
Transfer to the large soup pot.

Set the large soup pot over high heat.
Add red wine, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth.
Season with smoked paprika, Italian herbs blend, salt, and black pepper.
Cover the pot and let it bring to a boil.
Once it is boiling, reduce to low heat.
Let it simmer for 1 hour or until the beef is tender.
Add the frozen peas and baby potatoes.
Let it cook for another 20 minutes.
Transfer to a container.
Garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
Serve and enjoy!
